Look at all those fans! The people of Portugal joined Cristiano Ronaldo and the rest of the country’s soccer team to celebrate their huge Euro 2016 win with a crazy parade. See pics and videos right here!
Portugal sure knows how to celebrate a championship! The day after Portugal’s national team defeated France 1-0 in the Euro 2016 final, captain Cristiano Ronaldo and his team came home to celebrate their victory with fans. Thousands filled the streets for a champions parade, and it was nothing short of epic!
Strolling through the city of Lisbon on a huge double-decker bus with the word campeões (Portugese for “champions”) all over it, the team waved to the hoards of fans who packed the streets. Fans waved tons of Portugal flags and hollered to the team while they made their way to the Belem presidential palace to meet Portuguese President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa. Clearly it was a big day for everyone!
The massive crowds made for one awesome scene, and Cristiano couldn’t help himself from sharing a bunch of pictures and videos from the celebration, even exclaiming “So beautiful!” in one vid. Check out two epic videos below and click through the gallery to see more pics!
The game against France’s national team was no easy win, as neither team scored during regulation. Plus, the team was without their leader Cristiano for most of the match, as he suffered a devastating knee injury just 10 minutes into the game and had to be carted off the field 24 minutes in — talk about an intense turn of events! But with 12 minutes to go in extra time, Eder put an epic 30 yard shot into the back of the net to put Portugal up 1-0, and the guys managed to keep France from tying it up!
Portugal’s victory marked the country’s first major trophy win, so it’s no surprise that there were so many people out to celebrate. While the parade may be the biggest celebration of Portugal’s historic win, surely this is something that the country will be celebrating for a long time!
