Gotta catch ’em all! The new Pokemon Go app is taking the world by storm, and people are dying to know how they can become the best Pokemaster out there. Get five helpful tips for catching and battling right here!
People around the world are freaking out about their chance to be a Pokemaster with the new Pokemon Go mobile game, which just hit iOS and Android on July 7 and has already become the No. 1 app in the iTunes store. If you’re looking to be the next Ash Ketchum, let us help with some things you should know about how to play Pokemon go right here!
Where is the best place to find Pokemon?
Honestly, there’s no real answer to this question. According to Pokemon Go forums, players have found Pokemon just about everywhere from their home bathroom to inside a sandwich (no, you did not read that wrong).
Okay, so then what’s the trick to locating them?
Simply walking around. No matter where you are — home, at the mall, park, or even at work — your phone will let you know when there is a Pokemon in the area for you to catch. The app operates using your GPS camera that allows for this…but just be mindful that this will drain your battery pretty quickly!
How do I go about actually catching the Pokemon?
As soon as you spot a Pokemon, tap and hold your pokeball. You’ll see a white circle will appear around the Pokemon, including a green circle that will fluctuate in size. It’s apparently best to toss your pokeball when the green circle is at it’s smallest, but that doesn’t necessarily mean you’re going to miss it. While it’s unclear if there’s a time limit for catching the Pokemon, they are capable of deflecting your Pokeballs or trying to avoid being caught — just means you have to perfect your catching skills, right?
Do I have to spend money in order to power up my Pokemon?
Well, you can, but the game’s creators included PokeStops that allow for a way around spending money in the otherwise free app. You’ll see a little blue floating cube on your map as you search for Pokemon, and when you get close to the PokeStop the cube will turn into a spinning disc. At that point you need to tap and flick the disc in the center of the screen to get it spinning and find out what’s inside.
So what about battling the Pokemon?
You have to be at a gym in order to do that. You’ll see the gyms as you walk around looking for Pokemon, and they come in three different colors according to which team holds that gym: red, blue, or yellow (you can join a team after reaching level 5). If the gym you come across is a different color than yours, you can go in and battle in hopes of gaining hold of that gym. If the gym is the same color, you can still battle in an attempt to up the “prestige” of your gym. Apparently holding a gym gets you free stuff, so you definitely want to do whatever it takes to win the battle!
As a last little tidbit, there’s one thing to remember about this game: There is no real prize. While some may argue that being the top Pokemaster in the Pokemon Go world is a big deal, winning anything in the game doesn’t get you any money. So don’t get too carried away if you’re not the best at it!
