Good news, fight fans! Daniel Cormier will fight at ‘UFC 200’ on July 9. His rival, Jon Jones, was pulled from the MMA event after a drug violation. After Conor McGregor offered to fight, who will Daniel face in the octagon?
UFC 200 was in some serious trouble! Daniel Cormier, 37, was suddenly without an opponent, since his rival, Jon Jones, 28, was pulled from their UFC Light Heavyweight championship fight following a doping violation. Many MMA stars offered to step in, including UFC troublemaker, Conor McGregor, 27, and a replacement has been found!
It’s Anderson Silva, 41! Daniel will face the former UFC middleweight champion in a three-round, non-title, light-heavyweight fight at UFC 200 on July 9, the MMA organization announced on July 8, per ESPN. UFC’s president Dana White, 46, confirmed the news, saying, “I think it’s an interesting, fun fight. Anderson is undefeated at 205 [lbs.], and not just undefeated, but devastatingly undefeated.”
“Every time he moved up to [the 205 lb. weight class], he’s looked better than he did at 185 [lbs.],” Dana sad. This is not the only major change announced, as Miesha Tate’s, 29, women’s bantamweight championship fight with challenger Amanda Nunes, 28, will now be the new main event. It was supposed to be Daniel vs. Jon, but it was switched to Brock Lesnar, 38, versus, Mark Hunt, 42. Now, the highly anticipated title bout will close out the event.
So much for Conor stepping up to face Daniel. When asked if he could make a last minute appearance at the UFC spectacular, the UFC featherweight champion said he was ready to go. “I’m here, and I’m in shape,” Conor said during a Las Vegas press conference on July 7, per The Washington Post. “All they gotta do is ask.”
However, the last time Conor rushed into a fight, his face ran into Nate Diaz, 31, who handed Conor his first UFC loss. He was supposed to fight Nate at UFC 200 in an epic rematch, but Conor “retired” out of frustration with having to do press for the event. Their fight is currently scheduled for UFC 202. Conor will simply have to be a fan during UFC 200, as he watches Daniel take on Anderson in a MMA fight for the ages.
Are you happy with Anderson being named as Daniel’s opponent, HollywoodLifers? Who did you want to see him face? When do you think he’ll fight Jon Jones again?
