If Roger Ailes thought Gretchen Carlson was going to give up her sexual harassment lawsuit after he dissed her allegations as ‘false,’ he better think again. Gretchen has challenged the Fox News CEO to try and deny her claims while ‘under oath!’
Roger Ailes, 76, the CEO and chairman of Fox News, was quick to trash the claims that he sexually harassed Gretchen Carlson, 50, calling her lawsuit “offensive and “wholly without merit.” Yikes. Now, Gretchen has clapped back at her former-boss, daring him to make these claims while inside a court of law!
“Regarding Ailes’ claims that Gretchen’s allegations are false,” Gretchen’s lawyers, Nancy Erika Smith and Martin Hyman, said in a statement to HollywoodLife.com, “we challenge him to deny, under oath, that he made the statements attributed to him in the Complaint.”
Shots fired! Gretchen’s legal team wasn’t done. Roger’s claim that Gretchen was fired because of “bad ratings” is “demonstrably false,” her lawyers said. “The publicly available ratings confirm the allegation in the Complaint that at the time of her termination Gretchen’s total viewership was up 33% year to date and up 23% in the key demographic.”
“After her firing from Fox and Friends for complaining about discrimination, Gretchen was moved to a challenging time slot and denied support and promotion,” the lawyers said. Gretchen left the morning program after she reported her co-host, Steve Doocy, 59, for his alleged “pervasive sexual harassment,” including reportedly treating her like “a blonde female prop.” Despite this new show, her lawyers said, “she succeeded and was the number one cable news show in her time slot in total viewers.”
“Finally, [Roger] does not allow his employees to speak to the press or publish anything without prior approval,” her lawyers added. “Gretchen was chastised for answering a question from a hometown newspaper about her favorite Minnesota State Fair food. In her book Gretchen told her story while trying to keep her job – knowing that [Roger] had to approve what she said.”
Sadly, Gretchen has dealt with sexism at Fox News for years. She famously walked off the set after co-host Brian Kilmeade, 52, made a crude, sexist comment. Even before joining Fox, Gretchen had to deal with sexual harassment, as she once had a job recruiter force “his tongue down [her] throat,” a cameraman talk about touching her breasts and so much more. It seems she’s had enough and she’s ready to meet her former employer in court!
What do you think about Gretchen’s accusations, HollywoodLifers?
