Drake has penned an emotional message following the shocking on camera killing of Alton Sterling by a white police officer. Being the talented writer that he is, Drizzy was able to gracefully put in to words the outrage so many people are feeling right now.
So sad! Drake is the latest celebrity to speak out about the Alton Sterling killing, and he’s doing so in the form of a poignant and thoughtful letter to his fans. Keep reading to see what he had to say about the police shooting that has sparked a national outcry.
“I am grateful to be able to call America my second home. Last night when I saw video of Alton Sterling being killed, it left me disheartened, emotional and truly scared. I woke up this morning with a strong need to say something,” he began in an open letter he posted to his Instagram July 6.
“It’s impossible to ignore that the relationship between the black and brown communities and law enforcement remains as strained as it was decades ago. No one begins their life as a hashtag. Yet the trend of being reduced to one continues,” he adds.
“This is real and I’m concerned. Concerned for the safety of my family, my friends, and any human being that could fall victim to this pattern. I do not know the answer. But I believe things can change for the better. Open and honest dialogue is the first step.”
My thoughts and prayers are with the Sterling family and anyone who has lost someone to this cycle of violence,” he ended his message with before signing off, “Be safe out there. More life,” and actually signed his name to it.
Alton’s killing has sparked national outrage after video showed him pinned to the ground by two white Baton Rouge, LA police officers who responded to a 911 call about a man with a gun. The officers were nearly on top of him when one claimed that Alton had a gun so one of the officers shot him at point-blank range in the chest. The video was so horrific and disturbing and has once again brought up the issue of police violence against minorities in America.
