Chris Brown, 27, dropped a stunning new song on July 7 in the wake of the deaths of Alton Sterling and Philando Castile. The surprise song, titled “My Friend”, is for “anybody dealing with injustice or struggle”, according to the singer. You’ll want to hear the beautiful track ASAP.
Chris surprised fans by sharing a link to the song on social media, dedicating it to anyone who is a victim of “injustice or struggle”. LISTEN here:
The slow-moving, heartfelt piano ballad is just gorgeous. “What was I thinking/Packing up and leaving?/Now that you’re wiser, I’m ashamed/Yeah, yeah, yeah I can’t even cry/Anxiety at night/Can’t make up excuses/Gotta face the music,” Chris croons in the first verse.
Later comes the real tearjerking part: “If I said I missed you, Would you say the same?/Or if I said I loved you, would you simply walk away?/Thought we’d grow together, but everyday we’re further/Thought I did the right thing, but deep inside I’m dying.” BRB, sobbing. Of course, it also contains that Chris cheekiness with lines like, “Girl, you know you want to see me again”. Classic.
Chris tweeted, “This song I released for free for anybody dealing with injustice or struggle in their lives.” He’s clearly making a point to honor the tragic deaths of Alton Sterling and Philando Castile, and Chris’ outrage mirrors that of many other celebrities. Chris posted a video of Sterling being tackled on Instagram, captioning it, “THIS IS F*CK*NG WRONG!!!!!!!! HOW MANY TIMES ARE WE AS PEOPLE ARE GONNA ALLOW THIS MURDER AND BRUTALITY?????? I HATE THIS!!!!!!! GUNS DONT KILL POEPLE, CRAZY PEOPE WITH GUNS KILL PEOPLE!” Now, he’s hoping to send a more soothing message with “My Friend”, and we think he’s succeeded.
