Jesse Williams is NOT sitting by idly after Alton Sterling was killed by police in Baton Rouge, LA at the young age of 37. The ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ actor took to Twitter to share his rage with his 1.4 Million followers.
Jesse Williams, 34, voiced his absolute disgust over the death of Alton Sterling, 37, who was tragically shot dead by police in Louisiana after an altercation that occurred shortly after midnight on July 5. The actor has been a huge advocate of the Black Lives Matter movement and is continuing to promote justice for the slain father-of-five. We’ve got the scoop, right here.
Jesse stated his viewpoint by posing a question on Twitter, writing: “In the interest of time, would ye noble patriots please provide a list of infractions punishable by spontaneous public execution? Thanks!” In simpler terms, the actor wants to know what infringements of law are actually justifiable by killing someone in cold blood? The incident occurred outside a convenient store, after two officers received an anonymous call saying a man in a red shirt (Anton) threatened him with a gun while selling his CDs, according to Baton Rouge Police Department spokesman Cpl. L’Jean McKneely.
A cell phone video of the altercation was also released. One officer can be heard saying, “He’s got a gun! Gun!” — he then pulls out his weapon and fires. The autopsy has revealed that the multiple gunshots in Alton’s chest and back led to his untimely death, East Baton Rouge Parish Coroner Dr. William Clark confirmed.
Both officers involved have since been put on administrative leave and heated protests have already begun. Jesse is one of many stars utilizing their fan following to take a stand, including Chris Brown, 25, and Olivia Wilde, 23. Zendaya also commented on the matter. She asked: “How many more times must this happen for us to matter?”
Jesse recently spoke at the 2016 BET Awards, as he was honored with their Humanitarian Award, for his strides as a human rights activist. He also recently executive produced the documentary Stay Woke: The Black Lives Matter Movement, thus Alton’s death clearly is close to home for him. Although he received hate for his speech, this ongoing problem has led to a passionate response from many. Our prayers go out to Alton’s family, friends and loved ones.
