Zendaya, 19, slammed a fan on Twitter who made a horrifying joke about rape to his over 6500 followers on July 3! The now-deleted tweet, which referenced The Purge, got so popular that the “Something New” singer wound up seeing it, too. And she was not happy about the vulgar question it asked! “If the purge was real who y’all raping?” the Twitter user asked, accompanied by pics of Zendaya, Beyonce, Nicki Minaj and Rihanna. In The Purge, the America of the future has one day a year in which all crime is legal for a 12-hour period. Yes, that includes rape. But it’s a horror movie, and this guy is a horrible person who asked a real question, using very real woman as examples.
“This is absolutely disgusting and you should be ashamed of yourself. Is this really what my generation thinks is ok? People are sick…” Zendaya tweeted in response. She’s right! It’s awful, and the guy got shamed enough that he deleted the disgusting tweet. Not before he had the gall to respond to Zendaya with another joke, though. Seriously, dude?
He said, in another now-deleted tweet, that her response was “lit,” and she was having none of that. “The only thing that’s lit is your immorality and inhumanity young man. I pray you find some sense,” she replied. Bravo! This isn’t the first time Zendaya has called someone out on social media for bad behavior. She fired back at comedian Julie Klausner in March 2016 for accusing her of having an eating disorder and being a bad role model for little girls, all because she looked too skinny at the Kids Choice Awards. She tweeted a response to Julie, and made sure everyone knew it was okay to love their bodies, no matter what.
