Who could’ve predicted this? Iceland has been the biggest shock of this tournament, avoiding defeat in the group stages against Cristiano Ronaldo‘s Portugal, then shocking England in their last 16 game. What will they do next? Well, they’ve got a HUGE game now against the hosts France on July 3 that’s going to be their toughest test yet. Click down to watch the live stream!
France have looked pretty solid this tournament, and they showed how they can overcome adversity when the going gets tough. That was evident, especially, in their last 16 game against Ireland which they trailed 1-0 at halftime. They fought back to win the game 2-1 and it could’ve been even more in the end against a distraught Irish team.
With a population of just over 320,000, the Iceland success story seems even more miraculous. And their supporters have been the highlight of the tournament, cheering their boys on. Estimates say some 27,000 traveled to France for the Euros, which is a staggering 8 percent of the people in their country!
There’s no doubt they’ve had an incredible time, and a tournament they will never forget. Kolbeinn Sigþórsson, who scored the winner against England, has become a hero overnight! He will want to add to his goals.
While we don’t want to be accused of bias, it would be amazing if Iceland kept up their amazing run and shocked France. However, this might be where they run out of luck. But it’s been an awesome experience for them.
