Tom Hanks will likely earn himself another Oscar with his take on the incredible story of Capt. Chesley “Sully” Sullenberger in Sully. The new Clint Eastwood film focuses on the events before and after Sully heroically saves a plane full of people by landing on the water in the Hudson River in 2009.
Brace yourselves. The first trailer for Sully is intense. Sully looks back at the defining moment in his career, when he was forced to make a gut-wrenching decision on how to save 155 people, including himself, on US Airways Flight 1549 after the plane strikes a flock of geese.
He landed the plane successfully and no lives were lost. But many questioned Sully’s decision. In the trailer, the investigators say that Sully could have made it back to the airport.
“Not possible,” a shocked Sully says. “I felt it go.”
However, with all the talk surrounding the terrifying event, Sully begins to question himself. “I don’t feel like a hero,” he tells Katie Couric in a TV interview. He wonders if he did endanger the lives of the people onboard the flight after all. “Over 40 years in the air, but in the end, I’m going to be judged on 208 seconds,” he says.
The movie will tell the untold story of the “Miracle on the Hudson.” Sully also stars Aaron Eckhart, Anna Gunn, Laura Linney, Autumn Reeser and Mike O’Malley. Sully will hit theaters on Sept. 9.
