Congratulations are in order for ‘Dance Moms’ alum Maddie Ziegler, who looks so cool and confident on the cover of ‘Seventeen’ magazine — and inside, she opened up about how ‘free’ she feels after leaving the reality show behind.
Maddie Ziegler, 13, traded the Dance Moms stage for big things as she made a leap and left the show behind — and now she’s celebrating another amazing career milestone: her very first cover of Seventeen! The teen looks so stylish on the August 2016 cover where she’s interviewed by someone who knows her quite well — Sia! So, how does Maddie really feel about leaving Dance Moms behind?
The breakout star of the popular reality show admitted that leaving it behind wasn’t an easy decision. “Leaving Dance Moms was a hard decision to make— I was one of the originals—but it was getting too stressful… Now, I feel like I’m so free,” she said.
She also opened up about the show’s infamous dance instructor, Abby Miller. “She’s definitely exactly how she is on the show! But the thing that I like about her most is she can actually be funny sometimes. And she also wanted me to be good. It’s nice that she paid a lot of attention to me, but it would be a little embarrassing because Abby would sometimes say, “Maddie’s the best so you need to do the move like her.” And then my friends would get a little mad. And I understand that, because they just want to be themselves, not try to be me. I feel like I had so much more pressure on me to be the best in the room,” she said.

Maddie also opened up about who she hopes to model her career after. She said: “Jennifer Lawrence. She is an amazing actor and can do anything. She can be really quirky, and she’s so funny in interviews I’ve seen. I’d love to see her do a Sia video parody. She would be amazing at “Cheap Thrills”!”
The teen also admitted that nasty comments on social media can totally get to her. “I would be like, Why are they mad at me? I’ve come to realize now people just do it because they want attention. One person would be hating on me, and then another girl would get into a fight with her on my page! I’m just like, What the heck? Why do people do this?”
The star showed off stylish trends for the upcoming season, all from The Edit by Seventeen — and you can get the look thanks to the limited-edition capsule collection when it launches on July 11. For more on Maddie, be sure to scoop up the latest issue of the mag when it hits newsstands on July 5.
