Could he be moving to Los Angeles to play for the Lakers? LeBron James may be set to leave the Cleveland Cavaliers after opting out of his $24 million a year option for a contract extension. Has the ‘L-Train’ played his last game for the Cavs? Click here for the details!
Say it isn’t so! LeBron James, 31, was only just celebrating winning the NBA Championship with Cleveland Cavaliers on June 22 at their massive parade, but now he could be set to leave… WHAT? The L-Train has decided to opt out of his $24 million a year contract, and from July 1 he will be a free agent and can discuss a deal with anyone else in the NBA.
Now, as we told you, LeBron recently enrolled his kids, Bryce, LeBron Jr., and Zhuri in a new school in Brentwood, Los Angeles, which fueled speculation he’s heading to the Lakers. Of course, that’s all tickling the rumor mill right now, however, by taking this next step, and winning a championship with his beloved Cavs, is he ready for pastures new?
The NBA Finals MVP is not exercising his player option with the Cavs for 2016-2017, according to his agent Rich Paul, as per ESPN. However, it doesn’t necessarily mean he will leave. Although he has opted out, he can still resign for the Cavs and earn a little bit more than the $24 million he was slated to.
In fact, at the Cavs parade he said that he wants to stay in the Rock and Roll Capital of the World. “I love it here in Cleveland. I have no intentions of leaving,” James told ESPN‘s Dave McMenamin. “There are some technicalities to take care of I’ll leave up to my agent. That’s right from the horse’s mouth.”
While it may not be LeBron’s intentions to leave just yet, we can’t help but think he will end up a Laker one day. But, Jack Nicholson and co. may have to wait that much longer to see LeBron in a Lakers jersey.
