This is hilarious! Some Twitter trolls started the hashtag #HeterosexualPrideDay on June 29 to mock the real LGBT Pride events happening worldwide throughout June, but it totally backfired! It became a top trend thanks to people tearing it apart! See the funniest tweets here.
The LGBT community and allies united on Twitter on June 29 to hijack an ignorant hashtag and make it their own! #HeterosexualPrideDay was started from a place of hatred, but it became the top trend thanks to people mocking it hardcore! We have all of the most hysterical reactions, right here.
When we saw that #HeterosexualPrideDay was trending, we immediately cringed. However, once we checked it out we couldn’t stop laughing! A bunch of members of the LGBT community and their allies had totally taken over the hashtag, and turned it into the laughing stock of Twitter!
Some simply commented on how ridiculous it was, alluding to the fact that they were just going to log off Twitter for the day. Others took the opportunity to slam haters like Donald Trump by showing him in *that* creepy pic with his daughter and acting like they were a couple. However, the best ones were the tweets that pointed out why a real Heterosexual Pride Day was unnecessary.
They explained that gay pride parades aren’t so much about celebrating being gay as raising awareness for the infringements on their basic human rights that happen constantly just because of who they love, an issue that no straight person has ever faced. Lady Gaga drove this point home perfectly by posting a map that said “In red are all the countries where it is illegal to be heterosexual.” The entire map was white. “Heartbreaking,” she ironically quipped.
