The 911 Operators in Orlando listened in terror of as Omar Mateen slaughtered 49 people on June 12. The logs of the emergency calls that night reveal dying victims ‘screaming’ for help as they begged the police to save them from the shooter’s rampage.
The world is still mourning the Orlando Shooting that left 49 innocent partygoers dead inside the Pulse nightclub. As the survivors and the families of the victims try to cope with the aftermath of Omar Mateen’s rampage, the police have shared some additional information about that deadly night.
The police shared the 911 call logs taken during that horrific night, per NBC News, detailing the notes the emergency call dispatchers made during the June 12 shooting. These notes included what police officers said over their radios, as well as firsthand accounts of 911 call dispatchers talking with victims. These notes, as well as the partial transcripts of Omar’s 911 calls, paint a horrifying picture of what happened down that night.
The timeline of the bloodshed starts off at 2:02 A.M. with two words — “Shots Fired.” The log also ends with two words — “Subj down,” which was entered at 5:15 A.M. What happens in between those two entries would result in death, bloodshed and, ultimately, unbearable heartache.
“Desk can hear shooting in the background.”
“Someone screaming help.”
“Dsk has open line hearing 20-30 gunshots.”
“My caller is no longer responding, just an open line with moaning.”
“People in bathroom are also shot.”
“[Caller advises] his friend has been shot in the chest.”
“[Caller advises] victim is losing a lot of blood.”
“Subj has chinstrap facial hair,” a 911 dispatcher noted at 2:25 A.M. Nine minutes later, at 2:34 A.M, another wrote, “long gun shell casings.” At 2:40, the log shows that the shooter was “saying he pledges to the Islamic State,” and that “shooter saying possible explosives in the parking lot.” Ten minutes later, at 2:51, the log indicates a victim told the police that Omar had several bombs strapped to him, but this was proven to be untrue.
“Subj advises that he is a terrorist,” the next log notation said.
“Small dressing room [possibly] hears reloading.”
“1 subj trying to leave small dressing room… staying put now … hearing screaming.”
“Vic is … losing a lot of blood from leg and ribs.”
“People are evacuating out of dressing room window through AC,” the note for 4:21 said, giving a sense that there may be some hope for survivors. The entry at 5:02 A.M. began describing the police operation that ended the rampage.
“[Caller] heard 4 explosions, desk heads them in [background]”
“Shots fired north bathroom,” said the 5:14 A.M. update, indicating that Omar had been shot and killed. His death was confirmed, ending what would be the worst mass shooting in modern U.S. History. “Bad guy down strapped,” the log read at the end.
Our thoughts still go to the survivors of this horrific shooting, as well to the friends and families of the victims of this heart-wrenching tragedy.
