Abby Lee Miller, 49, could face some serious jail time after pleading guilty to bankruptcy fraud, which was part of her indictment on 20 counts of fraud in 2015, and a now a new charge for failing to report an international monetary transaction. Will she be able to two-step her way out of prison time?
The Lifetime star could face 24-30 months in the slammer after pleading guilty to 20 counts of fraud from her original indictment back in 2015, where she allegedly hid about $750,ooo of income in 2010, before filing for bankruptcy. Abby Lee also pleased guilty to violating currency reporting laws. The outspoken star’s lawyers are asking for a maximum of six months behind bars, as she will be sentenced October 11, per Deadline.
Before appearing before a judge June 28 in Pittsburgh, Abby’s initial charges had her facing a potential $5 million fine and five years behind bars, according to the site. But lucky for her, she was able to strike a recent deal with federal prosecutors over the course of a few weeks.
“Sentencing in this case will occur after the United States Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit resolves United States v. Free, a similar case addressing the issue of sentencing in a ‘zero loss’ bankruptcy,” Abby Lee’s attorneys said in a statement acquired by Deadline. “Throughout this case, Miss Miller has taken both the allegations and the proceedings very seriously. This has been a challenging time for Miss Miller. She appreciates the words of encouragement and support from around the world.”
Despite her financial troubles, the show apparently must go on…’Dance Moms’ is STILL scheduled to return to Lifetime, with Abby Lee, for part two of it’s sixth season this fall. If the dance mogul doesn’t get her way, we’re not sure how the show could continue? But time will tell!
The dance coach doesn’t seem to be letting her current situation get in the way of her business plans. As seen on her Instagram page, Abby is posting future Q&A events, and even teasing Dance Moms season seven. The feisty dance guru also informed followers of her up and coming master classes with Abby Lee & Company. She’s definitely playing it cool!
