Congratulations! Bryson Tiller, thrilled his fans by winning the Best New Artist Award at the 2016 BET Awards on June 26! But that’s not all! The 23-year-old singer also happened to win Best Male R&B/Pop artist earlier in the night. No big deal or anything! Read on to find out more about the Bryson’s win here!
Bryson, really deserved this year’s award for best emerging artist. We couldn’t be more excited for Bryson’s TWO big wins after he lost Top New Artist at the Billboard Music Awards to Fetty Wap. The BEST new artist truly did win in this case, although, it was a tough race with Alessia Cara, 19, Andra Day, 31, Kehlani, 21, and Tory Lanez, 23, also up for the award. Stiff competition for sure!
Bryson’s breakout hit was “Don’t,” originally released on SoundCloud. But he soon got attention from record labels and signed with RCA Records in Aug. 2015. Bryson released his debut studio album, T R A P S O U L, last Oct., which debuted at No. 11 on the US Billboard 200. So far this year, Bryson has already teased a new project, She’s Got My Soul, the follow up to T R A P S O U L.
The Best New Artist winner at the 2015 BET Awards was “Stay With Me” singer, Sam Smith, 24, who outdid other nominees, Bobby Shmurda, 21, Dej Loaf, 25, Fetty Wap, 25, Rae Sremmurd (composed of brothers Khalif “Swae Lee” Brown, 21, and Aaquil “Slim Jxmmi” Brown, 22)and Tinashe, 23. The category is a notoriously tough one, as it is just so hard to judge an artist just breaking into the industry. But Bryson truly shined this year and without a doubt deserved to take home the award. We can hardly contain our excitement for She’s Got My Soul now!
