The 2016 BET Awards were nothing but fun, but host Anthony Anderson’s joke about Floyd Mayweather may have gone a little too hard! Anthony called the fighter out for being a republican!
Floyd Mayweather got a rude awakening at the 2016 BET Awards on June 26 when co-host Anthony Anderson decided to poke fun at him during a commercial break. Anthony put the pro boxer on blast for who he’s supposedly supporting in the 2016 presidential election. Any guesses?
During one of the amazing awards show‘s commercial breaks, Anthony was apparently making fun of Floyd for being an outspoken Republican! He asked Floyd point blank if he’d be voting for GOP presidential frontrunner Donald Trump, 70, in the 2016 general election, and Floyd just laughed.
Is that a yes? “I don’t know how the hell you got tickets to the show if you’re a Republican,” Anthony said, as the audience erupted in laughter. Okay, that’s pretty funny! But still, it’s so damn harsh to make fun of Floyd in front of so many people! At least it wasn’t on air. That would have been too far.
Anthony and his co-host, his Blackish TV wife Tracee Ellis Ross, totally nailed their opening, doing a funny Hamilton spoof about all the crazy things that would be happening during the rest of the awards show. Except, you know, their version of the musical featured R&B legend Anthony Hamilton, not Alexander Hamilton. Oh well!
HollywoodLifers, are you shocked that Anthony called out Floyd in front of the entire BET Awards audience? Tell us in the comments!
