It’s a sad day for fight fans! Tyson Fury has pulled out of his highly anticipated rematch with Wladimir Klitschko. On June 24, the WBA and WBO Heavyweight champion explained his decision to withdraw from the fight – find out the details!
Wladimir Klitschko, 40, better be a patient man because he’s going to have to wait a little while longer until he gets another shot at Tyson Fury. The 27-year old WBA and WBO Heavyweight champ postponed his epic boxing rematch, saying he’s not ready to fight Wladimir just yet!
“Hey guys, I gotta little bit of bad news for you all,” Tyson said in an Instagram video he uploaded on June 24, weeks ahead of his July 9 rematch with Wladimir. “About 10 days ago, I was running and I went over my ankle — sprained my ankle. I’ve been to the hospital and had X-rays and MRI scans and all that stuff. They say its not broken but it’s badly sprained. Keep off it for 6-7 weeks. I tried to still train a bit.”
“I had a second opinion a week later and I got the same advice,” Tyson said, as he broke the hearts of fans that wanted to see him go toe-to-toe with Wladimir again. “So the fight will be postponed. Sorry to all my fans to let you all down, but injuries do happen. It’s one of them things. My apologies to everybody. The fight will be on as soon as possible. That’s all I know at this moment.”
Aww. Boxing fans have been looking forward to this rematch ever since Tyson fought Wladimir in Dusseldorf, Germany in Nov. 2015. The battle between these two brutes was epic. Sadly, Wladimir’s fiancé, Hayden Panettiere, 26, was there to see Tyson end her bae’s epic 11-year unbeaten streak. If there’s anyone who was looking forward to this rematch, it had to be Hayden.
Though, this injury may have been for Tyson’s best interests, as sources tell ESPN that he “simply was not prepared to fight Wladimir.” Tyson has reportedly been partying and appeared out of shape during press events ahead of this fight.
When he wasn’t getting injured, Tyson was getting into trouble over making anti-Semitic, anti-transgender remarks. Tyson apologized in May 2016, saying “I said some things which may have hurt some people, which as a Christian man is not something I would ever want to do,” per ESPN. Well, Tyson now has at least 6-7 weeks to think about his comments and hopefully, get back in shape for his fight.
Are you sad that the rematch has been postponed, HollywoodLifers? Or are you not surprised that Tyson pulled out of this fight?
