He’s one of the most in-demand ballers, projected to go second pick in the NBA Draft on June 23, but what do you know about Duke freshman Brandon Ingram? Let us tell you all you need to know before he makes a splash in the professional game.
The boy has the world at his feet, and NBA giants the Los Angeles Lakers are projected to make him their pick, but we don’t know too much about Brandon Ingram, 18, just yet. But rest assured, once the NBA Draft is over on June 23, you will want to know all about this boy. He’s expected to be the next big thing in the game, and is a superstar in the making.
1. He got his basketball education at Duke.
During his freshman year, Brandon excelled at Duke where he averaged 17.3 points, 6.8 rebounds and 2.0 assists over 36 games. He was named ACC Rookie of the Year in 2016 and already destined for greatness, which is why he’s a considered a Top 2 Selection for the draft!
2. It’s the LA Lakers that might get him.
Well, it remains to be seen because the Los Angeles Lakers do funny things when it comes to the draft. However, they have overall second pick and if Ben Simmons goes first, then you can only assume Brandon will go second and the Lakers will get their man. Don’t forget, they’ve also freed a lot of salary with the retirement of Kobe Byrant last season.
3. The boy had major talent at high school too.
Brandon played all four years of high school basketball at Kinston in North Carolina. His skills earned them four straight state championships. By doing that, Brandon became the first men’s basketball player to win 4 consecutive North Carolina State Championships in history.
4. Who is his mentor?
Over the years, Brandon has leaned on former NBA star and Kinston native, Jerry Stackhouse. Jerry was Brandon’s coach at AAU, and really helped mould him into the player he’s become.
5. He’s huge and he’s not totally done growing yet!
Obviously height helps out when you’re playing as a small forward, and Brandon is exactly the perfect size for the role standing at 6’9″ tall. But factor his age, he’s still a year or two left of possibly growing. Watch out!
