Chaos erupted at the end of the Cleveland Cavaliers victory parade on June 22, as a teenage girl was shot twice in the leg amid the celebrations. A 15-year-old boy has been taken into custody for allegedly shooting the innocent bystander.
The Cleveland Cavaliers parade ended in tragedy and chaos as shots were fired, hitting a young girl, 13, in the leg after hours of celebration. People in the area were sent into a horrified frenzy as they ran away from the scene, and the details are terrifying.
The 13-year-old girl sustained two shots to the knee that were non-fatal, and a 15-year-old boy was taken into custody as a suspect in the incident. He had a gun tucked into his waistband at the time of his arrest, although it’s unclear if he was the one who fired shots. Police are still looking for another suspect, according to WKYC.
Eyewitnesses recall hearing a series of pops in the bathroom at Tower City, but Cleveland police have confirmed that no one was shot at this venue. “We had one shooting, and it was followed up with multiple reports of shots fired that turned out to be false,” Sergeant Jen Ciaccia explained.
The shooting took place at the corner of Euclid and Ontario around 5:00 p.m., but the rest of the day at the parade is said to have been peaceful. It was definitely a cause for celebration in Cleveland, as LeBron James, 31, and the Cavaliers brought home the city’s first NBA Championship after their victory against the Golden State Warriors on June 19.
Throughout the day, LJ, his team members, coaches and their family members rode through the streets of Cleveland in front of 2 million ecstatic fans. It is truly heartbreaking that such an incredible day is now tainted by yet another shooting.
