Yikes! RHONY’s Bethenny Frankel gave fans a scare when she revealed on the show that she would need to undergo a serious surgery. At the time, her fate wasn’t certain, but now the housewife has opened up about her health scare following the dramatic episode and answers the all important question — Is she okay?
Bethenny Frankel, 45, revealed that her health had taken a turn for the worst during filming season 8 of The Real Housewives of New York, causing her need major surgery after experiencing a number of serious issues. But after braving the surgery and recovery process, Bethenny joined Good Morning America on June 22, to give an update on her health status and to educate fans on her condition.
“The doctors visit was a wake up call. He told me I had lost almost 10% of my blood. I was really anemic and low on iron, and the fibroids were huge, and I needed to get them removed surgically,” Bethenny explained on the recap of RHONY.
Bethenny went into more detail about her illness while speaking with Lara Spencer, explaining that more than 26 million women deal with it everyday. “Yeah, most people don’t talk about it; I think it’s something that many women have, but they don’t get them to the point that you have to have them removed,” she explained. “I have suffered from a lot of female problems — cysts and endometriosis. And now doctors think that the fibroids caused my miscarriage a couple of years ago. The bleeding was so excessive and I was so weak, and I felt like I looked so haggard and had such black circles under my eyes that I had to take care of it.”
While Bethenny was definitely terrified to go through with the surgery, she admitted that it was necessary as her symptoms were seriously affecting her. “It was apart of the show, and it was affecting how I was acting on the show,” Bethenny added. The housewife began experiencing problems during a trip to Home Goods on the Bravo show. “I was very stressed. I just felt zoned out because when you’re iron deficient and lost so much of your blood, you’re just depleted. And I just felt really terrible. I’m not really good at being the patient, the victim, the weak one. So it was challenging on the show.”
But after having a myectomy operation in May 2016 and going through a 6-week recovery program, Bethenny is feeling better than ever! “Really good,” she said of her health status, “I think the way that you take care of yourself is really important. Since the surgery, I was drinking more juices, and eating vegetarian food and try to eat healing foods. I feel good, and I feel better. I feel happier than I felt in a long time.” We’re so happy everything worked out for Bethenny!
But although her health scare is becoming a thing of the past, Bethenny revealed the drama is far from over on the show. And she said fans are really in for a treat! “It’s the best season ever. It’s the best season since the beginning. And it’s about to get crazier!”
