Tim Kaine could be the country’s next vice president! If Hillary Clinton wins the Democratic nomination in July, she may be picking the 58-year-old senator as her running mate. Not familiar with who Tim is? Let us help!
Hillary Clinton hasn’t officially become the Democratic Party nominee, but she’s already scoping out her potential VPs! With just about one month until the nomination is determined at the Democratic National Convention, Virginia senator Tim Kaine is already a frontrunner for the position. We have everything you need to know about Tim right here!
1. He has lots of political experience under his belt.
Tim was elected as mayor of Richmond, Virginia, in 1998, after practicing law in the town for 17 years. He also served as a councilman for the city, eventually working his way up to lieutenant governor of Virginia and governor of Virginia. He was elected to the U.S. Senate in 2012, which means he is in his fourth year as the junior U.S. senator from Virginia.
2. He and Hillary are both graduates of Ivy League law schools.
After receiving an economics degree from the University of Missouri, Tim attended Harvard Law School where he earned his Juris Doctor degree. Ten years before that, Hillary received the same degree from Yale Law School. Talk about a pair of qualified candidates, huh?
3. He can play the harmonica!
If he does become Hillary’s running mate, Tim would be able to bring a little fun to the seriousness of the election. He is an avid harmonica player who can play everything from bluegrass to gospel!
4. He’s very serious about his Roman Catholic roots.
“My faith is central to everything I do,” Tim said, according to Patch.com. “My faith position is a Good Samaritan position of trying to watch out for the other person.”
5. He’s ready to take action on gun safety reform.
Tim recently joined a bipartisan group of Senators that will work to create a compromise proposal “to help keep guns from terrorists and make America safer.” A member of the Senate Foreign Relations and Armed Services Committees, Tim said in a press conference that the issue has to be addressed in a bipartisan way. With gun violence being a major issue in this year’s election, surely Hillary will be taking his stance into deep consideration when picking her running mate!
