The only way any fan will see Drake during his ‘Summer Sixteen Tour’ is from their seats, because he cancelled all his concert meet and greets! Is Drizzy playing it safe after the heartbreaking death of Christina Grimmie?
Drake, 29, is grateful to all his fans that helped him make it to the top of the rap game. Yet, the “Back To Back” rapper won’t be meeting any of them face-to-face during his upcoming tour. After seeing what tragically happened to Christina Grimmie, 22, is Drake not taking any risks?
Drake pulled the plug on all his fan VIP packages on his Summer Sixteen Tour, an industry source tells PEOPLE magazine. Fans who bought the packages were told that, due to “scheduling issues,” these special perks have been cancelled. Thankfully, they’ll be refunded their money, as some of these VIP packages went for $1,000. Yikes!
These VIP packages included a seat in the first five rows of the concert and a whole bunch of merchandise. It also included a meet and greet with Future, 32, Drake’s Summer Sixteen tour mate. While Drizzy fans may be heartbroken that they won’t get a chance to see Wheelchair Jimmy in person, after Christina was gunned down during a similar fan session, it’s better to be safe than sorry.
Drake’s not the only star cancelling his fan sessions in the wake of Christina’s horrific killing. Selena Gomez, 23, cancelled her meet-and-greet in Miami once she learned her friend had been shot. Though Selena has nothing but love for her fans, “she feels that for her safety, and her fans safety, that it might be best to cancel all future meet and greets,” a source EXCLUSIVELY tells HollywoodLife.com.
Christina was holding a meet and greet with her fans on June 10 at the Plaza Live Theater in Orlando, Florida, when Kevin James Loibl, 27, walked up and shot her multiple times. Kevin, who had a history of violence, was reportedly infatuated with the singer, and claimed that he would make The Voice singer his wife. Sadly, the deranged fan’s obsession only led to her short life being ended far too soon.
Are you sad that Drake cancelled his meet-and-greets, HollywoodLifers? Or do you think that after Christina’s death, it was the right thing to do?
