Whoa! Cristiano Ronaldo needs to find his chill. When a reporter asked the soccer icon a question ahead of Portugal’s June 22 game against Hungary, Ronaldo threw the man’s microphone into a lake! Click to watch.
Not cool, Cristiano Ronaldo. The 31-year-old star of Real Madrid and the Portugal soccer team vented his frustrations over his lack of Euro 2016 success by pitching a fit in public. He also pitched a reporter’s microphone into a nearby lake! Yikes!
Cristiano and his teammates were taking a stroll near the team’s hotel in Lyon, France on June 22, according to CNN, when the record-breaking soccer star was approached by journalist Diogo Torres. Instead of declining the question politely, Ronaldo decided to throw the man’s microphone into the nearby lake! Uh, rude! Cristiano may be one of the best soccer players in the world but that was totally a prima donna move.
“I asked Ronaldo if he was prepared for the match,” Diogo told BBC Sport. “He didn’t answer. He grabbed my mic and threw it into the lake. I’m not sure why he did it. I think it was a momentary thing. I think he would not have done it if he had thought about it.”
Poor innocent microphone! Ronaldo didn’t keep his frustrations in check. His Portugal team is without a win in the Euro 2016 tournament, and they head into their June 22 match with Hungary tied with Iceland for second place in Group F. Though Cristiano is known for scoring points as much as he’s known for hanging out with gorgeous women, the soccer stud has yet to score a single goal in this tournament.
He also came off like a jerk when he trash talked Iceland. Everyone expected Portugal to obliterate the small island team, but Iceland held the soccer juggernauts to a draw, per CNN. While they celebrated this amazing feat, Ronaldo dissed them. They celebrated like they had won the Euro cup or something,” he told reporters. “Iceland only tried to defend… they had two chances and then did not try to score. That’s a small mentality. That’s why they’ll do nothing in this competition.”
Well, they’re currently tied with Ronaldo’s team, so that’s something. Maybe he was thinking about that when he chucked Diogo’s mic? Or, perhaps Ronaldo just doesn’t like Diogo’s employers? Diogo works for CMTV, the television channel of a major newspaper in Portugal. “We produce a lot of news about him. Some of it he doesn’t like. Perhaps that’s why he did it. But it wasn’t a personal thing.”
Do you think Cristiano should apologize to the reporter, HollywoodLifers? Are you shocked by this behavior or do you think this is typical for Ronaldo?
