Will you be seeing your next concert for free? Ticketmaster is paying back its customers following a 13-year-old lawsuit settlement over ‘excessive and deceptive’ fees. Get the details on how to find out if you got free tickets right here!
Say hello to free concert tickets! Event ticket seller company Ticketmaster is issuing free ticket vouchers to customers who purchased tickets on the site between October 1999 and February 2013 and paid an “Order Processing Fee” that was never refunded. The company may be out nearly $400 million, but its customers will sure be happy!
Filed in 2003, the Schlesinger v. Ticketmaster class action lawsuit alleged that Ticketmaster failed to fully inform customers of every detail of the UPS and Order Processing Fees applied to purchases. Ticketmaster vigorously denied the claims, but eventually agreed in a settlement last April to grant $45 million worth of discounts, cash, and even tickets to customers who used the service between Oct. 21, 1999, and Feb. 27, 2013.
The company announced that each customer will receive “at least one” ticket code in their accounts, some of which will be good for two general admission tickets to “selected” events at venues run by Live Nation Entertainment, Ticketmaster’s parent company. Although not everyone will receive free ticket codes, every customer who has bought tickets on Ticketmaster in the 13 1/2-year period will receive a $2.25 credit on future primary ticket purchases for up to 17 claims.
So how do you know what you got? It’s easy: Log in to your Ticketmaster account on ticketmaster.com and go to your account (located in the upper right corner). On the left side of the account page, there is a “Vouchers” section and a link that reads “Active Vouchers” — and voila! That’s where you’ll find your code(s). It will look a little something like this:
You’ll be able to redeem the codes on the Billing Page during your transaction, using the “Voucher Code” link to apply the discount(s). Unfortunately not every event will be eligible for the discounts or free ticket vouchers, but you can find out all of the guidelines and restrictions here. Either way, you’ll get to see live music at a discounted rate at some point!
