Wow. Two months after Prince’s tragic death, Judith Hill, the woman who was with him during his emergency plane landing is opening up about the scary experience. Here’s what she had to say.
This is heartbreaking. Prince’s protege Judith Hill, 32, was on the plane with him on April 15 when he had to make a last-minute emergency landing relating to an opioid overdose before his death, and now she’s telling her story. See what she had to say, right here.
Judith was alongside Prince during his horrifying plane ride on April 15, and she told the whole story to the New York Times on June 21. They were chatting about his performance and photography before “his eyes fixed” and he went unconscious on the plane. “Thankfully I happened to be looking into his face,” she said. Otherwise she may have thought he just fell asleep.
She and his friend Kirk Johnson tried to wake him up, then told the pilot to land. That’s when they stopped in Moline, IL. “We knew it was only a matter of time; we had to get down,” she continued. “We didn’t have anything on the plane to help him.” Judith admits that she and Kirk were “very freaked out.”
The duo continued shaking and calling Prince’s name until they landed in Moline and emergency crews distributed the Narcan shot. Before they even got to the hospital, he was back awake and acting normal, “which was such a relief to me, because I thought he was gone,” revealed Judith. “He wasn’t dreary or drowsy, anything. He wanted to watch ‘Zootopia,’ he loved those films. I was going to pull it up on my phone. He said “no, no, no, not here. We’re going to pick a special time and place to watch that.”
Judith said she never knew about his addiction, but “he was very cooperative the whole night, serious about getting help,” she revealed. She says that after that night, he was trying to do better. “He did it because he was concerned and he wanted to do the right thing for his own body and that’s the part that breaks my heart, because he was trying. He was trying.”
After the traumatic plane landing, Judith said Prince told her “it’s only by god’s grace that I’m even here.” He explained to her that he felt his consciousness leave his body. “I had to fight for my life,” Judith remembers Prince saying. “I remember hearing your voices from afar and saying to myself ‘follow the voices, follow the voices, get back in your body, you gotta do this’ and it was the hardest thing that he’d ever done, to get back into his body like that.”
