The UFC took time to look back at Kimbo’s run within the MMA promotion on June 18, running a two-minute tribute during UFC Fight Night 89, according to MMA Junkie. Kimbo appeared on the 10th season of The Ultimate Fighter in 2009 and would go 1-1 in the UFC. Though he only was in the company for a short time, he obviously left a huge mark.
His death on June 6 definitely affected his fans and this video only reminded them how much they missed Kimbo. Someone tweeted how they were “still in turmoil” over the loss, while others were still “so sad” over how the young man passed away from reported heart failure. Others were just devastated by the loss and tweeted out “RIP” to the fighter and his family.

Kimbo (born Kevin Ferguson) was rushed to a Florida Hospital but he was pronounced dead shortly after he arrived. His training partner, Tyler Cook, claimed Kimbo’s “heart quit” working. The heavyweight reportedly had “a liver mass and congestive heart failure,” and doctors reportedly said he’d need a heart transplant to survive. Unfortunately, he passed away before they could even put him on the donor list.
The MMA mourned the loss of Kimbo, with Jorge Masvidal, 31, Colby Covington, 28, and other MMA fighters sharing their grief over this heartbreaking loss. UFC fighter Nate Diaz, 31, shared a picture of him and Kimbo in tribute, hoping his friend was now at peace.
Even The Game, 36, saw Kimbo as an inspiration and said that Kimbo’s story “is one of those stories that gives people hope.” This UFC video won’t be the only tribute to the late fighter, as Spike will run a special hour-long memorial to Kimbo on June 24, right before Bellator 157.
