Tegan and Sara returned to their old stomping grounds to perform their hit ‘Boyfriend’ at the MMVAs tonight, June 19, and it was epic. The Canadian indie-pop sibling duo and LGBT activists put on an incredible show with a surprise at the end that wowed everyone!
Tegan and Sara lit up the iHeartRadio MMVAs, period. It’s not a stretch to say the Alberta natives were the highlight of the show — held in Toronto, Canada — as the twins won over the crowd with “Boyfriend”, off their new album Love You To Death. Here’s what went down during their superb performance!
Full disclosure: I’m fairly obsessed with the Quin Twins at the moment, and have seen them live three times in the past two months, but otherwise, this is a TOTALLY unbiased review of tonight’s performance.
Tegan and Sara brought the crowd to their feet with “Boyfriend”, and they coordinated in funky graphic printed bomber jackets, skinny destroyed ‘Franky’ jeans from The Kooples and sneakers (T wore PINKO ‘Donna’ shoes). I love some good #twinning, and they delivered on that front. The best part was the confetti cannons at the end — they really turned the room into a giant party!
Overall, T&S totally killed their first MMVAs appearance (which was kicked off with them arriving on the red carpet in a double-decker bus filled with fifteen sets of identical twins — amazing)!

T & S last turned it up at the 2015 Oscars, where they performed the slick pop hit “Everything Is Awesome” with The Lonely Island, putting on a trippy rendition of the LEGO Movie track. It included dudes dressed as LEGO workers, Oscar statuettes made of LEGOs and even a guy in an “awesome possum” suit. Amazing.
HollywoodLifers, was Tegan and Sara’s performance your favorite of the evening? (There are wrong answers.)
