Now, that’s how you kick off the iHeartRadio MMVAs! Macklemore and Ryan Lewis opened up the June 19 show with a rocking performance of the new song, “Dance Off.’ It had everything: fire, break-dancing and a twerking Amber Rose!
Leave it to Mackelmore, 33, and his hip-hop BFF, Ryan Lewis, 28, to make sure the 2016 iHeartRadio MuchMusic Video Awards started on the right foot! The duo kicked it off by spitting rhymes, dropping beats and leaving everyone grooving along! They also had some special help, thanks to very special cameo from Amber Rose, 32, and her gorgeous backside!
The audience at MuchMusic’s headquarters in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, were certainly feeling Macklemore and Ryan’s performance at the start the June 19 event. Mack busted out “Dance Off,” spitting fire while grooving along the stage. The performance also had flames bursting in the background, B-boys breaking out all the moves, and plenty of sexy girls getting down on the dance floor. The song even had a positive message, with Macklemore singing, “Ladies / Fellas / Don’t drunk dial your exes!” Good advice!
But a song called “Dance Off” wouldn’t be complete without an actual dance off. Macklemore then plucked two volunteers, one of which was Amber Rose. The first competitor was popping and locking like a professional. However, Amber used her badonkadonk to its fullest with some sexy booty shaking. The winner of this dance-off? The MMVA audience, obviously.
Macklemore and Ryan are no strangers to award shows and when they show up, it’s either a powerful performance or a party. The duo were joined by Leon Bridges, 26, for the 2015 American Music Awards, and they performed “Kevin,” a somber tale about a friend who trying to kick his addiction to prescription drugs. The performance was powerful, showing there there’s plenty of heart and soul to the “Thrift Shop” singer.
Of course, that’s not surprising, as Macklemore is the rapper who wrote and performed “Same Love,” a song supporting same-sex marriage. He also mentioned Trayvon Martin while accepting an AMA in 2013, proving that Macklemore is active in social issues.
But, he also has a good sense of humor and always ready to have some fun. At both the 2015 EMAs and the 2015 MTV Video Music Awards, Ryan and Macklemore busted out their huge party jam, “Downtown.” They almost recreated the epic video of the song outside the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles and the crowd there ate it up! Amazing!
Though, Macklemore and Ryan Lewis kicked off 2016 on a controversial note. While Mack was rapping about his “White Privilege,” he took shots at Miley Cyrus, 23, and Iggy Azalea, 26, calling them both “fake” and “plastic.” It was a scorching burn that left Iggy fuming! It’s a good chance she didn’t tune in to see him light up the stage during the MuchMusic Video Awards.
What do you think about Macklemore and Ryan’s MMVA performance, HollywoodLifers? Were you feeling it or did it get a “hard pass” from you?
