We are just devastated. Anton Yelchin was one of the brightest and most talented actors in Hollywood, with an acting ability that was exemplified by his star turn in the new ‘Star Trek’ movies. But sadly, after a freak car accident on June 19, he passed away. Here’s his life in pictures.
Anton Yelchin was one of the bright sparks in Hollywood before a cruel freak car accident took his life aged just 27. He had so much more left to give and the timing of his death, just a month before we would see him reprise his role as ‘Chekov’ in Star Trek Beyond, has really left us completely numb. But let’s cherish the memories we have of him in film, and his best moments, by looking back at his life in pictures.
Anton first wowed audiences in Hearts of Atlantis back in 2001, when he provided an amazing star-turn opposite Anthony Hopkins in a movie about a stranger coming into a mother and son’s life. He was already labeled a child star for the future, and Hollywood offers piled up.
Another highlight for us was his role in Alpha Dog, which was Justin Timberlake‘s first starring role, opposite Emile Hirsch. He played young teen ‘Zack Mazursky,’ who was easily influenced by the bad people around him. It showed that he had real versatility and vulnerability in his work.
He hit the blockbuster big time in 2009 when he starred as Chekov in the first Star Trek movie. The iconic role he took on gave him plaudits from all the critics, and took him into the big league. From there, he appeared in Terminator Salvation as a young ‘Kyle Reece’ aiming to protect ‘Sarah Connor’ from the merciless cyborg.
He successfully reprised his role as ‘Chekov’ in Star Trek Into Darkness in 2013, and even appeared in animated movies for The Smurfs series in between.
To say he wasn’t on the verge of something big, would be an absolute understatement. Anton was an incredible actor with a promising future that sadly he won’t fulfill. That’s the sad part of all of this.
