Rest in peace, Prince Be! One of the singers of P.M. Dawn passed away on June 17. The hip-hop duo, which included Prince Be (Artell Cordes) and his brother Jarrett who went by DJ Minutemix, was huge in the 90’s. Prince Be was taken way too young, at just 46. We have all the details, right here.
The hip-hop community received a major blow on June 17 with the loss of Prince Be. He passed away at 46 in his New Jersey home from renal kidney disease, according to TMZ. It also seems that he had been battling diabetes for years, as someone commented on the P.M. Dawn Facebook page saying “Prince Be Rest In Peace forever more, Pain from Diabetes can’t harm you anymore.”
Prince Be has been struggling with his health for a while now. In early 2005, the singer suffered a massive stroke. This sadly made him paralyzed on the left side of his body. Regardless, he continued to perform with his brother, and later his cousin Doc G.
P.M. Dawn was a staple of the 90’s hip-hop world. They blasted up the charts with their jam “Set Adrift on Memory Bliss,” and continued performing into the 2ks. Doc G still performs and releases new music, so the P.M. Dawn legacy will live on. Our thoughts are with his friends and family in this difficult time.
