1. Jo was killed by a 52-year-old man.
Jo was brutally attacked in the street by a man identified by officials as Tommy Mair, who has since been arrested. According to reports, she was stabbed with a “foot-long knife” as Mair shouted, “Put Britain first”. Jo was allegedly trying to break up a dispute between two men at the time of the attack, and she passed away in the hospital just an hour later.
2. She attended Pembroke College, Cambridge.
In 1995, Jo graduated from Pembroke after having studied Social and Political Studies. Pembroke is a prestigious school that includes notable alumni such as Tom Hiddleston and Naomie Harris. As a child, Jo attended at Heckmondwike Grammar School.
3. Jo was extremely involved in charity work.
Jo’s philanthropy took her around the world. She campaigned on various human rights issues for Oxfam, and was a strategy consultant for Save the Children and the NSPCC. Once in Westminster, she was a chairman of the Labour Women’s Network and a senior adviser to the Freedom Fund.
4. She was a Labour Party politician, serving as a Member of Parliament for Batley and Spen.
In the 2015 UK general election, Jo was nominated by the Labour Party, and she took her seat in office on May 8, 2015. While in office, Jo was involved in solving the conflict in Syria, and she launched the All Party Parliamentary Friends of Syria group.
5. Jo leaves behind two young children and a husband.
