Omar Mateen, the ruthless killer who slaughtered 49 people in an Orlando nightclub, hinted that his attack was coming on Facebook. He even went on the social media site during the massacre to see if his rampage was making the news!
Survivors of the horrific attack at the Pulse nightclub in Orlando have called the shooter, Omar Mateen, 29, “heartless” and they are right! Omar reportedly told people online he was planning this attack and while he was committing the deadliest shooting in U.S. history, he was busy searching for himself on Facebook!
“America and Russia stop bombing the Islamic state. In the next few days, you will see attacks from the Islamic state in the USA,” Omar wrote on Facebook, according to a letter released from Republican Senator Ron Johnson, 61, the chairman of the Senate Homeland Security Committee, per the AP. Omar allegedly also wrote “the real Muslims will never accept the filthy ways of the west,” though the letter did not specific when these reported posts were made.
Omar also allegedly took a break from the bloodbath to check if his June 12 slaughter was trending. Hesearched for “Pulse Orlando” and “Shooting” on Facebook, according to the letter. While victims were sending frantic text messages to their loved ones or posting their tearful cries for help on Snapchat, Omar was concerned if he was making the news.
The letter from Sen. Ron Johnson also said that Omar called 911 during the massacre and pledged his allegiance to ISIL, echoing the comments he allegedly made on Facebook. Omar also said during the attack, according to survivors, that he was killing those in the nightclub as vengeance over the U.S. “bombing his country.” Initially, Omar’s homophobic attack was thought to be due to his repulsion at seeing two men kiss, though he reportedly was a regular at Pulse and had an active profile on a gay dating app.
Authorities are now calling on Facebook’s founder, Mark Zuckerberg, 32, to help them uncover Omar’s “trail of hate.” There should be plenty to find. Omar was under FBI investigation for making “inflammatory comments to coworkers” that hinted at possible ties to terrorism.
He was also investigated in 2014 when the American authorities suspected he had ties to an American suicide bomber. These incidents followed a lifetime of anger and hate, as Omar allegedly beat his ex-wife and he reportedly threatened to kill everyone in his 5th grade class.
What do you think about Omar searching Facebook in the middle of his rampage, HollywoodLifers? Do you think Facebook will uncover any more evidence that he was planning this attack?
