You may have fallen in love with Ashley Williams on ‘How I Met Your Mother’ like I did, but now you will absolutely adore her again on ‘The Jim Gaffigan Show.’ Before the season two premiere airs this Sunday, she stopped by to chat with our HollywoodLife podcast. Listen here!
We all know Jim Gaffigan is hysterical, and if you’re not watching The Jim Gaffigan show on TVLand, you’re missing out! Ashley Williams portrays his wife, Jeanne Gaffigan — Jim’s real wife is a writer on the show, so naturally that proves for quite the dynamic. Listen to our brand new interview Ashley on our HollywoodLife podcast here!
You can listen to her full interview, starting around 28:00.
“It’s so intense,” she told us about playing Jeannie, while the real Jeanne is on set, helping out — and even giving her tips when she’s not sure what way to take something. “She’s really cool, she’s really respectful. They auditioned a lot of people and she chose me. She has the ability to rewrite on the dime. But yeah, I definitely am like, ‘What did you mean here?'”
When it comes to Jim, Ashley couldn’t say enough. “Can I just say I have never met a more motivated human? This is a guy who in his natural state, he wants to sleep, his body wants to sleep 14 hours at night. But he gets like 4 hours of sleep,” she said, laughing. “The morning is rough, he’s a little grumpy, but he gets out of bed and he goes. This guy generates all of his material, he and Jeanie write each episode together. The guy does not stop. He talks about his early life in stand-up and he worked as an accountant, and he would get up very early, put a suit on and go to work until 6:30 at night… [he’d] run home, change clothes and do like six different sets that night. Then, he’d stay up writing and get three hours of sleep. But he is a lazy human. He’s always looking for excuses to sit down in a scene and eat in a scene, but he’s the most motivated lazy person I’ve ever met. It’s really inspiring.”
Talk about an oxymoron! Regardless, season two is going to be just as, if not more hilarious than the first.
“When we first did it, we did it at CBS. It was really watchable and cute and perfect hair, and CBS passed on it,” she said. “Last year Jim and Jeannie were kind of playing around with how far we could take things. So this season is even more of that kind of thing. I finish reading a script and I’m like, ‘No way.’ We have tons of flashbacks. Literally, there’s a scene that takes place with the Gaffigans as cavemen. We have been able to curate Jim’s audience. His standup audience love the show.”
