Prep before your appointment: “Because highlights on dark hair can seem like a big change, bringing in pictures of what you like can aid in ensuring that you and your colorist understand one another,” Cassandra says for getting the blonder color just right.
Go for a blended look: “Depending on your style, you may want very subtle tone-on-tone highlights or maybe you’re looking for a brighter, bolder contrast. Either way, the highlights should be blended and deeper at the root so that they’ll grow out seamlessly,” Cassandra tells us of your color options.
“Instead of severe ombré, opt for something that is still bright on the ends but also has some connecting highlights closer to the roots — especially around the face,” she adds.
Go for a warm tone: “Given your skin and eye color, the highlights should be either more golden or sandy,” Cassandra says. “Overly ashy highlights on brunette hair tend to look dry and lackluster, while warmer tones reflect more light and make the hair look healthier.”
