At first, Amanda’s Snapchat story is light and fun, showing her friends dancing to some high energy music and sipping on drinks. But at the very end of the video, suddenly we see the camera turn on her face, and the mood immediately changes from happiness to horror. Amanda says “shooting” as she clutches her face in terror and gunshots fire in the background. We can only imagine what was going through her mind.
It’s unclear whether Amanda was still around her friends as she filmed the vid, but it has sadly been confirmed that Amanda’s life was taken shortly after posting to Snapchat. Her brother, Brian Alvear, was the one who shared her Snapchat story on Facebook. Watch her heartbreaking video below. (Warning: The video’s content may upset some viewers.)
Along with Amanda, police are working to identify the innocent clubgoers who were tragically killed in the horrific shooting, which is the worst in United States history as it left 49 dead and 53 more injured. Although it’s still unclear if Omar (the shooter) was a terrorist, it has been reported that he was affiliated with ISIS, pledging allegiance to the terror group moments before his killing spree. President Barack Obama also called it an “act of terrorism” in a press conference following the brutal attack.
Omar’s massacre has also been considered a hate crime, as the Orlando nightclub was a gay club. Support for the victims has been outpouring from all over the world, including several celebrities and even a special tribute from the Tony Awards. Our hearts go out to those who have been affected by this terrible tragedy.
