Orlando nightclub shooter Omar Mateen reportedly looked at Disney World as a potential target, according to a report from a federal law enforcement source. Click through for the shocking details about Omar’s alleged plan.
Omar Mateen, 29, the gunman who murdered 49 and injured 43 at Orlando gay nightclub Pulse on June 12, reportedly scouted Disney World as his initial target for a brutal attack, according to a law enforcement source who spoke to People magazine. The shooter responsible for the deadliest mass shooting in United States history reportedly considered carrying out his sinister plans at one of the happiest places on Earth.

Omar’s wife, Noor Zahi Salman, told federal authorities on June 12, following his vicious massacre, that Omar had been “scouting Downtown Disney and Pulse [nightclub] for attacks.” Noor and Omar had gone to Disney World together in April, but his scheme started more recently, a law enforcement source told People magazine.
A potential reason why he picked Downtown Disney (also known as Disney Springs), and not one of the four Disney Parks: the shopping and restaurant district is not protected by security and bag checks, whereas people need to go through metal detectors and random searches to get into the Magic Kingdom, Hollywood Studios, Animal Kingdom and Epcot.
Though Omar had been investigated twice by the FBI in the past for potential ties to terrorism, he was not placed on any watch list, and was able to legally buy the Sig Sauer RMCX AK-15, Glock model 17 9mm and a Smith and Wesson .38 caliber revolver, and countless rounds of ammo used in the Pulse massacre.
Omar was first questioned by the FBI in 2013, on two separate occasions, for making disturbing comments at work. The investigation was closed when no terroristic threat was found. Again, in 2014, Omar was investigated by the FBI for his ties to Moner Mohammad Abu-Salha, an American Jabhat al-Nusrah supporter who committed a suicide bombing in Syria. There wasn’t enough evidence to connect the two, and that investigation was closed as well.
