How sad. The Hungarian actor who stood at just 2’9 was in a coma for a week before dying. Michu Meszaros was best known as the actor who donned the ‘Alf’ costume for the late 80’s sitcom.
Michu Meszaros, 76, has sadly passed away. The tiny actor was coined the “Smallest Man On Earth” and lived a long life working in the entertainment industry, especially as part of the Ringling Bros. Barnum and Bailey Circus in the 1970’s.
Michu Meszaros was rushed to a Los Angeles hospital over a week before he died on June 13 after he was discovered inside his home completely un responsive, TMZ has confirmed. Sadly, after a week in a coma in the hospital, Michu passed away. His official cause of death remains unknown at this time.
Standing at just 33 inches tall, Michu was longtime friends with the late, great Michael Jackson who became a fan after seeing the small man perform. Michu spent years traveling with the Ringling Bros. circus throughout the 70’s, then moved on to television acting in the 80’s. According to the report, Michael was such a huge fan of Michu that the young actor spent lots of time at Neverland Ranch and was even present when the pop icon married Lisa Marie Presley in 1994.
For the entirety of Alf’s four seasons (1986 to 1990), Michu donned his costume any time he needed to walk or move throughout a scene. Other than Michu in a costume, Alf was usually portrayed by a puppet.
Our thoughts remain with Michu’s family and friends during this sad time.
