What an incredible playoff series. The Penguins are once again the Stanley Cup Champions. This is the fourth time in franchise history Pittsburgh have won an NHL championship. The Penguins’ last title came on the road after defeating the Detroit Red Wings in 2009. It was a rough road during the regular season and the playoffs for the Penguins who were led by captain Sidney Crosby.
The Penguins finished the season with a respectable 48-26 record before first taking on the New York Rangers in round one of the playoffs. They took down the Rangers in 5 before knocking out the Washington Capitals in 6 and then they went the distance with the Tampa Bay Lightning defeating them in 7. The Penguins then faced the Western Conference champion San Jose Sharks in the Stanley Cup Finals.
Led by captain Joe Pavelski, the Sharks gave it everything they had this season but unfortunately were unable to secure their first Stanley Cup for San Jose fans. The fish had an equally difficult journey reaching the finals. San Jose fans watched their team take down rival Los Angeles Kings to begin the playoffs and eventually the St. Louis Blues to win the Western Conference Championship. But the Sharks were no match for the flight-less birds who defeated them soundly in the Stanley Cup Finals in six games.
What do you think HollywoodLifers? Were you rooting for the Penguins to win it all? What did you think of the Stanley Cup Finals? What was your favorite moment in the NHL playoffs?
