The team behind NBC’s ‘The Voice’ are praying for Christina Grimmie, their former contestant who was shot outside her concert in Orlando, Florida on June 10.
Christina Grimmie, 22, found her voice on Adam Levine‘s team during season six of The Voice. Now, the network has broken their silence following the devastating news that she was shot multiple times after leaving her concert in Orlando, Florida. Update: Christina passed away in the early hours of June 11.
“We are heartbroken. @TheRealGrimmie is a loved member of our family. Our thoughts are with her and her family,” The Voice‘s official Twitter account tweeted out in the early morning of June 11th. They also added the hashtag, “#PrayForChristina.”
Following her death, they released another statement, writing, “There are no words. We lost a beautiful soul with an amazing voice. Our hearts go out to the friends, fans and family of @TheRealGrimmie.”
Voice coach Blake Shelton also tweeted after fans started asking him about it. “Just hearing about this.. Is this all true? Anybody know how she’s doing?” he first asked. Later, he wrote “Ok.. Praying,” and when fans asked if he knew anything more about it, he wrote, “Haven’t heard.. Just reading the same stuff y’all are at this point. Can’t believe this.”
According to the Orlando PD, a man walked up and shot Christina after she left the Plaza Live Theater in Orlando. She was outside doing a meet and greet with fans along with Before You Exit, who also performed. Following the shooting, Christina’s brother tackled him — the shooter then turned the gun at himself and killed himself.
