The buzz for this one’s electric, as the top european countries get together in France to face-of against one another in a tournament that’s expected to cause many surprises along the way. But we can’t expect Romania to cause the first one, can we?
Well, the French will be without key player, and Rihanna ex, Karim Benzema for this tournament. The Real Madrid striker hasn’t been selected after his part in allegedly blackmailing a teammate over a sex tape forced the French soccer association to suspend him from international soccer. But they still have Atletico Madrid‘s Antoine Griezmann who unlock the best defenses.
Coach Didier Deschamps wants his team to get-going from the onset. “The less the occasion weighs on the players, the better,” he said in a press conference on June 10. “We have been preparing for 10 June for two years. It’s important to be back in competition football. Our last official game was the quarter-final against Germany at the World Cup [in 2014]. The others have all been friendlies. The setting is the Stade de France – the opening game – so it is certainly special. This should set the tone for the whole tournament.”
With the whole country behind France, it’s hard to imagine them losing to Romania. But the French have been known to crumble under pressure. It wouldn’t be a surprise if the opener ended in a tie.
