We knew Cristiano had to be raking in a lot of dough…but $88 million?! That’s insane! Just playing for Real Madrid alone, Cristiano earns a whopping $43.5 million, but his endorsement deals with Nike, Tag Heur and more add some cushion to the bank. Another soccer star, Lionel Messi, 28, followed close behind in second place, earning $81.4million.
Last year’s top-earner, Floyd Mayweather, dropped down to 16th place, while former No. 1, Tiger Woods, came in at No. 12, making this the first time since 2001 that an athlete besides one of these two has landed on top. However, considering Floyd only fought once in the last year and Tiger hasn’t won a tournament since 2013, their rankings are still pretty impressive!
The first woman to appear on this year’s list is Serena Williams, who falls below 39 men at No. 40, earning $28.9 million. Maria Sharapova also showed up in the Top 100 at No. 88, but those two tennis stars are the only two females to make the list. Ridiculous!
Were you shocked that Cristiano is the highest paid athlete, HollywoodLifers?
