“I have to put that aside,” the NFL star said smiling. SO sad! Cam always dabbed in the end zone after making a touch down. Most players have a signature move they use to celebrate, and this was totally Cam’s. So why would he change it?
The quarterback admitted that it’s time to let it go. While Cam may want to stay current with his dance moves, it there’s other reasons he could be saying goodbye to the dab forever. The dance may have been lucky during the season, but it actually didn’t score the Panthers the 2016 Super Bowl Championship against the Denver Broncos.
And addition to the tragic loss, he may be retiring the move because of the negative feedback it received. Cam’s dab outraged conservative moms and sports critics who saw the dance as a symbol of poor sportsmanship, arrogance, and not the action of some one who is a role model to young children.
“The chest puffs. The pelvic thrusts. The arrogant struts and the ‘in your face’ taunting… We saw it all,” one parent penned in a letter to the The Charlotte Observer. “I don’t know about your family life Mr. Newton, but I think I’m safe in saying thousands of kids watch you every week. You have amazing talent and an incredible platform to be a role model for them. Unfortunately, what you modeled for them today was egotism, arrogance and poor sportsmanship.” Yikes! That’s probably not how Cam wants to be seen by his young fans or their parents.
But the good news in all this is that the Panthers star has plans to hit the field with something new! “I have time. I have until September to find out,” he said of planning for his new routine.
HollywoodLifers, what do you think Cam’s next dance will be?
