Sean’s mother released a statement about her son, a former NBA center, the news outlet claims. “It is with deep sadness and overwhelming grief that we mourn the sudden loss of my son, Sean. Our family asks that our privacy be respected as we grieve during this incredibly difficult time,” she said.
Sean was the coach of the 76ers since 2014, serving as an assistant for player development. He also starred at the University of Arizona before playing 12 seasons in the NBA with the Lakers, Mavericks, Clippers, Hawks, Magic, Hornets, and Timberwolves, before playing overseas in Spain, between 1992 and 2004.
“Sad news tonight, as we learned that former Suns player development coach, Sean Rooks, has passed away. Our condolences to his family,” the Phoenix Suns tweeted, while Arizona Basketball’s official Twitter account wrote, “Very saddened to hear of the passing of former Wildcat Sean Rooks. He and his family are in our thoughts. #RIP.”
Sean is survived by his son, Kameron, who is currently a center at the University of California, Berkeley.
