Here’s a giant high five to you, Taylor Swift. Inside, your heart has probably been breaking after parting ways with Calvin Harris. Nevertheless, you’ve put a smile on your face and instead of moping, you’ve gone out of your way to made a pair of lucky fans happy.
Taylor Swift, no matter how big a star you are — how talented, rich, beautiful and successful — you still face love challenges just like the rest of us. It couldn’t have been easy to split with your boyfriend of 15 months, DJ Calvin Harris.
It was only a couple of months ago that you two were kissing happily on a tropical vacation, celebrating one year together and making hearts in the sand with your initials in the center. But that was then, and now you two have parted ways. You haven’t broken your silence on the ending of the longest romance you’ve had, Taylor. But Calvin has, tweeting that “the only truth here is that a relationship came to an end & what remains is a huge amount of love and respect”.
You actually retweeted that.
So kudos to both of you for publicly taking the high road about each other. There are lots of reports that the two of you had different relationship goals: Taylor was ready for more commitment, while Calvin was happy with “living in the moment”; Taylor didn’t feel like Calvin was really there for her, and Calvin felt that the spark had gone out of the romance. In reality, it’s only you, Taylor and Calvin, who really know the reason or reasons for ending your relationship. And who knows? You two could yet get back together at some point.
After all, Calvin couldn’t resist “liking” one of your Instagram photos taken at a wedding of a fan this weekend, which you were invited to “crash”. But Taylor, you aren’t focused in the least on what might have been or whether there’s hope for a reconciliation. Instead, you’ve carried on with your inspiring life. Once again, you focused on making other people happy this past weekend. You jetted all the way to New Jersey to surprise one of your super fans, Max Singer, and his bride Kenya Smith at their wedding.
You were secretly invited by Max’s sister Ali after their mom sadly died before she could live to see her son’s formal wedding. Max and Kenya had a small wedding ceremony at his mother’s bedside in the hospital, where Mac even danced with his mom in her room to your hit song “Blank Space” so she could experience a mother/son wedding dance before she passed away.
Taylor, you have the biggest heart in the world, and take so much joy in making the lives of your fans better. Not only did you jet cross-country to join Max and Kenya’s celebration, but you played and sang “Blank Space” for the beyond thrilled couple for their first dance. You then stayed and took a million photos with guests, and you gave a beautiful handmade wedding card to the newlyweds.
You may not have found your own “happily ever after” yet, but instead of moping or chowing down on the couch with Ben & Jerry’s, you chose to think about how you could make a fan’s dream come true. And you did it. Your thoughtfulness and consideration for others is one of the things that makes you so very special. Once again, you are showing the tens of millions of fans that look up to you how to handle a breakup in a strong and gracious way.
Thank you, Taylor, for being a breakup girl role model. Do you agree, Hollywoodlifers? Has Taylor impressed you with her post-breakup behavior? Let me know.
