If you like to laugh then watching WWE Network’s Swerved is a no brainer! And we spoke to WWE Superstar Dolph Ziggler all about it and so much more, check it all out after the jump!
When it comes to the WWE Network, you get the best entertainment that money can buy and to say we are excited for the new season of Swerved would be an understatement! And to add to that we got to talk to WWE Superstar Dolph Ziggler EXCLUSIVELY on what we should expect from the show that debuts all nine half hour long episodes on-demand on the award-winning WWE Network on June 6, immediately following Monday Night Raw, which airs on USA Network. This is the first time WWE Network will do a binge release for a show on-demand.
When we spoke with Dolph Ziggler EXCLUSIVELY he teased the season by referencing the video you see below by saying, “Yeah it is pretty honestly insane! The fact that we did shock collars as high up on our groin as humanly possible legally, it is one… something I will never do again and two… something that better make some pretty good TV because I put my body on the line for you guys!” From the clip below, it looks like it will be a riot!
He added, “There is also a really crazy movie audition with The Miz and myself going completely off script. That was a blast. But honestly, I believe that the most watched Swerved will definitely be Paige and myself with shot callers on high and on our upper groin, cringing and sweating. It will be twenty minutes long but I sat in that chair for an hour sweating and worrying and begging for the show to end. I really had to suffer for this art! With any show you have to put the action in there so hopefully the cut will show us sweating and shaking in the chair because it was crazy!” We hope so as well!

Is there anyone you’d like to attach the shock collars to in a future episode?
DZ – I would put it on Sheamus in a heartbeat! I don;t know if it would even register with him, who knows! (Laughter)
With your comedy background I would imagine shows like this are very enjoyable for you to do, what other type of show or shows would you like to do on the WWE Network?
DZ – The last few months Renee Young and myself have pitched a couple different pilots to co-host maybe a fun Daily Show news desk show or some type of game show with some type of interaction with our Superstars. Renee has several shows on her plate right now because of how good she is and I have in the past hosted WWE Download which is like Tosh.O show but PG. I got to write my own material and write jokes so that was cool. And being a part of Swerved we kind of throw some creative things in there on the fly and do some improv, it is really fun for us to do something besides wrestling and I love it but it is fun to be a little outside the box. Seeing someone not in their comfort zone or completely opposite from what you would normally see them, it is like ‘Oh My Gosh!’ Even Dean Ambrose, even in the trailers you see him in a pink polo shirt which is something I have never seen in my entire life and though I didn’t understand anything he said so to see these Superstars in roles and completely flip it around and kill it is great because everyone has so much range it is such a blast and so off the wall.
With the future brand split coming and Smackdown moving to Tuesdays not much has been addressed on what will actually happen, what would you like to see occur, more titles, something different?
DZ – Honestly being a student of the business of wrestling in general and loving the storytelling and reaction and studying everything. When this brand extension happens, it is not about more titles, it may happen I don’t know, I am not behind the scenes with it but more titles doesn’t mean better wrestling or more prestige but what we will have is more opportunity, that is the key. For someone that is only regulated to Superstars and Main Event and get the chance to be on basically two different shows that will be live on Monday and Tuesday, competing brands trying to outdo each other and we all know that if you watched in the nineties we had two brands going head to head and it turned out some pretty cool stuff, pretty screwed up stuff, with some messed up things here and there but once you throw so many things against the wall because you want to win and you go above and beyond and that is what happens with brand extension. Live show on Monday, a live show on Tuesday and nothing comes off as a B show. Everything is an A, which one is the best! The cool thing about that is you’ll see people who are sometimes are on TV for a minute or two getting more opportunity, and that is something that has happened in the past, When given an inch, you can go a mile and become a bigger Superstar and help their brand. That is going to be exciting and for me who studies this business everyday, watching Superstars emerge and watching who knows Smackdown emerge as the better show. Who knows, you could have a young Superstar become a veteran like myself and tie their boots a little tighter and go above and beyond. I couldn’t tie mine any tighter and no one will tie them for me but that is the idea on paper!
You applied a new edge to your character last week on RAW, will we see a continued look in that direction or was that a one night deal?
DZ – Theoretically the story was there to set up some old school stuff. Make everyone bite deeper into this storyline but it also reminded people that since I was five years old I have been wrestling and I have broke records and I have the all-time winningest record at Kent State and it felt good to throw on the headgear and mouthguard even though the moves aren’t for the coolest guys. But it reminded me that I used to beat the hell out of everybody, lets start doing that again! It felt good, it felt that the whole story fit all together. It was quick two minute story of me talking about moves and wrestling just to trick Byron Corbin and kick him in the crotch, so that edge will hopefully continue. I will do everything in my power to have that continue because I haven’t heard this much positive feedback from people, Superstars, relatives since I once was World Champion. So hopefully for this new story to continue, my character will nurture and make strides to become one of the top guys.
What else do you need to prove in your career?
DZ – It is not about me or titles or some pat on the back for having the most televised matches in the past fifteen years but that just goes to show when people put the workhorse label on people that there is a reason that it is there. And knowing that I am helping the product on a daily basis and giving back and to talk to the younger guys, not just giving feedback but actually helping them in their psychology and helping them with their stories, passing a torch that theoretically was never passed to me, but there are a few Superstars that are so good at their jobs that no matter what they do they make it great, I know at the end of the day that more and more young guys come up to me that is cool to know as a veteran that I am doing my part and that is how good it will ever get!
In future films, who would you like to work with?
DZ – I love Ellie Kemper from Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, I think she has a great future ahead of her. One way or another, whether it is a leading lady, television whatever! You name it!
So HollywoodLifers, tell us all about the show when you see it below! It’s hilarious! And if you don’t already have the WWE Network, stop everything you are doing and get it today!
