Poor Miss California. When Nadia Mejia was asked about social and economical inequality in America during the 2016 Miss USA pageant, she couldn’t exactly come up with an answer. In fact, at one point, she closed her eyes and took a deep breath. Watch!
Oh no! Every year there’s always one flub of the night, and this year’s belonged to Miss California Nadia Mejia. During the 2016 Miss USA pageant on June 5, judge Nigel Barker asked her about social and economical inequality, and unfortunately, she totally blanked when trying to come up with an answer. It was so hard to watch.

Forget about the gorgeous contestants in the swimsuit competition, the question and answer segment Miss California had a major flub. “One of the biggest challenges facing the United States is social and economic inequality. How do we narrow the gap between the rich and poor?” Nigel asked Nadia.
After taking what looked like a big gulp, Nadia said, “When it comes to social and economic inequality, I think that the rich and the poor need to stop being so segregated. I think there is a middle class. I think that the rich need to…” And that’s when she totally blanked. Then she smiled, closed her eyes, and took a deep breath because she knew her answer didn’t make a ton of sense. But once she mustered up some courage, she continued, “I think that the rich need to be able to be giving, and I think the poor need to work hard. And I think the middle class need to come together and find an in between.” Unfortunately, she still didn’t recover.
Poor Nadia. That was so hard to watch, but we can’t even imagine how she was feeling. It was probably just nerves that got the best of her, so it’s nothing personal. We just feel bad for her. At least she looked great in her evening gown.
Following the interview round, Miss California was cut from the competition. Obviously, her answer affected her standing in the competition. Miss District of Columbia, Deshauna Barber, ended up taking home the crown!
