The Greatest is currently dealing with some health issues, unfortunately. Muhammad Ali was hospitalized for a “respiratory issue,” according to TMZ who broke the story on Thursday, June 2. As mentioned above, the exact date he entered the hospital for the issue remains unknown, but the boxer’s rep has confirmed the news to the outlet.
“Ali, who suffers from Parkinson’s disease, is being treated by his team of doctors and is in fair condition,” family spokesman Bob Gunnell said in a written statement provided to WDRB. “A brief hospital stay is expected. At this time, the Muhammad Ali family respectfully requests privacy.”
Sadly, this is not the first time Muhammad has been hospitalized in recent years. In December 2014, the boxer was hospitalized for a urinary tract infection when he was 72 years old. A few weeks later he was hospitalized again as a follow-up for treatment to the infection, just in time for his 73rd birthday celebrations, reports TIME.
Our thoughts are with Muhammad and his family during this time.
