This is SO scary! Protesters tried to rush the podium during a Bernie Sanders rally in California, and it was so serious that the Secret Service had to get involved! Watch the terrifying footage.
Whoa! Bernie Sanders, 74, was promptly evacuated from his podium at a rally in Oakland, California on May 30, after a group of animal rights activists attempted to rush the stage. Thankfully the Secret Service stepped in, or this could have been a whole lot worse!

The Democratic presidential candidate took the podium at Frank Ogawa Plaza, when one member of the Secret Service promptly approached the mic. “Step away right there,” the man in black told the senator as he extended his arm in front of him. Like many others in the crowd, Bernie looked very confused, but video footage shows a commotion going on at the corner of the stage.
Five protesters jumped over the barricades and rushed the stage, but were stopped by security. Video shows two of the activists throwing their fists up in the air, as a Secret Service member is trying to escort them out. One other protester appeared to have been hit during the commotion, while another was carried out, according to ABC News. Yikes!
The scene definitely looked terrifying, but the Senator and his supporters didn’t seem too bothered. While the Secret Service handled the activists, the crowded yelled the candidate’s name.
“We don’t get intimidated easily,” Bernie said after the protesters were removed. The Vermont Senator was given the security detail following his rally that was shut down in August following protests of another cause.
So why the protesting at this event? Zach Groof, of the grassroots group, Direct Action Everywhere says they have been targeting Sanders for a long time because of his views on animal rights.
“His campaign has promoted itself based on this idea of progressivism and rejecting discrimination and inequality,” Zach told ABC News. “But when it comes to the animals in the United States and around the world, discrimination and violence is the name of the game every single day. He claims to be a progressive, but you cannot be a progressive if you oppose animal rights.”
For the most part, Bernie Sanders rallies have been looked at as peaceful, unlike Republican presidential candidate, Donald Trump, 69, who’s had a number of violent protests and attacks occur during his rallies. Bernie is expected to make a couple more stops in California as he continues his uphill battle against the Democratic front-runner, Hillary Clinton, 68. Hopefully this won’t happen again.
