He’s been one of the blowout stars of the NBA playoffs and is the most sought after player in basketball, but what do you know about Oklahoma City Thunder’s Kevin Durant? Let HollywoodLife.com tell you all you need to know!
He’s starred in the NBA playoffs, most notably to the detriment of Stephen Curry and the Golden State Warriors, and now Kevin Durant, 27, is starting to become one of the most talked about basketball stars on the planet. But what do you know about the man they nickname ‘The Durantula’ in OKC? Let us tell you everything you need to know!
He was so good as a college player his jersey number was retired!
Kevin was simply unplayable for the Texas Longhorns, averaging 25.8 points per game, 11.1 rebounds and 1.3 assists per game. He was named the Naismith College Player of the Year in 2007, the first ever freshman to win the award, and in 2007 he declared himself available for NBA draft. In memory, the Longhorns retired his jersey!
He was snapped up by the Seattle Sonics.
After his successful college career, Kevin was the number two pick in the draft for the Seattle Sonics. Amazingly, in his first ever career game, he scored 18 points, 5 rebounds and 3 steals, which made it a debut to remember. He was named Rookie of the Year at the end of the season, averaging 20.3 points per game, which made him the only teenager along with LeBron James and Carmelo Anthony to achieve such a feat.
Kevin’s an Olympic gold medalist.
That’s right, Kevin was part of the USA basketball team in London 2012 that won gold and he even broke records. With averages of 19.5 points, 5.8 rebounds, 2.6 assists, and 1.6 steals per game, he broke the record for most points scored in Olympic basketball.
He’s very religious.
Before each game, Kevin makes sure he goes to the chapel to, we presume, pray that everything goes ok on the day! He is a devout Christian and even has religious tattoos on chest, wrist, and back.
Despite his enormous earning potential, he refuses to get excited over money.
He earns around $35 million a year and is signed to Jay-Z‘s Roc Nation group, with sponsors including Nike, Sprint, Gatorade, Panini, General Electric, and 2K Sports. However, in an interview with Sports Illustrated he said that “global marketing and all that stuff” doesn’t interest him. Good man!
